* The University of Maryland football team moved to 6-3 (3-2 ACC) on the season with its 59-21 victory over North Carolina, its sixth win in seven games. The Tar Heels now stand at 1-8 (0-5 ACC).

* In the last two meetings with the Tar Heels, Maryland has posted 118 points (59 in each game).

* The Terrapins have now won three consecutive contests in the series while the Tar Heels' lead in the all-time series shrinks to 35-30-1.

* With its win today, Maryland is now 18-1 at home under Ralph Friedgen. The coach also now owns the all-time mark for wins by a third-year coach in Atlantic Coast Conference history with 27. He breaks the total of 26 held by Lou Holtz (26-8-2, NC State, 1972-74) and Danny Ford (26-9-0, Clemson, 1979-81).

* The 80 points scored by both teams is the most combined points at Byrd Stadium since Nov. 5, 1994, when NC State downed the Terps, 47-45.

* Maryland's 45 first half points were its most this season and mark the second time this season that the team has posted over 40 in a half (44 vs. The Citadel, 9/13). It also marks just the third time since 1980 that the team has posted 40 or more in a half with all three coming in the Ralph Friedgen Era (42 vs. Duke in 2001 the other).

* The Terrapins' 39 second quarter points are a new Atlantic Coast Conference record. The previous mark of 35 was set four times, most recently set by North Carolina (versus Duke, 11-18-00).

* The Terrapins posted 39 points in the second quarter alone today. In addition, the team posted 417 yards of offense in the first half. Both totals were better than the team had posted in any one of the last three complete games.

* Senior Latrez Harrison finished today's game with four receptions for 54 yards and two touchdowns. He is the first Maryland receiver to catch two touchdowns in a game since Guilian Gary scored three against Georgia Tech (11-18-00) in the last game of the 2000 season, a drought that spanned 35 games.

* Carolina scored on its opening drive today marking the first time this season that a Maryland opponent has scored on its opening possession. The Terrapins had held six of eight opponents coming into the game held off of the scoreboard all together in the first quarter.

* Including a 55-yard reception against the Tar Heels, sophomore Derrick Fenner owns four of the five-longest receptions by a Terp this season. For the year, Fenner has caught 10 passes for 298 yards - an average of 29.8 yards per catch. Sophomore JoJo Walker's second quarter 67-yard touchdown reception, today, is the only top 5 Terrapin catch this season that does not belong to Fenner.

* Junior Steve Suter put together a fine all-around effort on Saturday for the Terrapins. He finished the game with four receptions for 72 yards. His 67-yard kickoff return in the second quarter is the longest by a Terp this season. His diving pass reception for a second-quarter two-point conversion that tied the game at 14 marked the first two-point conversion for the Terps since 2001 (9-8-01 vs. Eastern Michigan).

* Senior Scott McBrien finished the day 15-of-25 for a career-high 349 yards and a career-high four TDs.

* McBrien's 349 yards were the most by a Terp QB since Scott Milanovich had 380 vs.Florida State on 11-18-95.

* McBrien's four touchdown passes on the day gives him a new career total of 25 - good enough for fifth in school history. McBrien passed Jack Scarbath (1950-53; 22) and Bryan Cummings (1994-97; 22), Alan Pastrana (1965-68; 23) and Dan Henning (1985-87; 24) on the all-time passing touchdowns chart with his career day against the Tar Heels.

* Tar Heel Mike Mason's 96-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the first quarter was the first against Maryland since November 12, 2001, when Clemson's Derrick Hamilton returned one 100 yards.

* The Terrapins have scored first in each of their nine games this season. Today marked the first time that the Terps did not lead at the end of the opening frame.

* Maryland continued a homecoming tradition under Ralph Friedgen today by wearing red (home) jerseys with red pants.

* Today's attendance was 51,195, the fifth time in as many home games this season that Maryland has hit the 50,000+ mark. It marks the first time in school history that the team has hit the 50,000 mark for attendance in a season five times.

* Maryland's next opponent, Virginia (4-3, 2-2 ACC), beat Wake Forest today, 24-7. Both teams have a bye next week.
