
Maryland Faces Rutgers In NCAA First Round At Penn State This Friday At 5 p.m.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland women's soccer team has earned its eighth NCAA berth in the last nine years as the Terps will travel to Penn State to face Rutgers in the first round of the 2003 tournament. The Maryland/Rutgers game will kickoff at 5 p.m. and be followed by the Penn State/Navy match at 7:30 p.m.
The winners of Friday's games will meet on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Jeffrey Field.
Tickets will be available at the Jeffrey Field box office prior to each day of action. Tickets are $7 for adults, and $3 for call students including college students.
Maryland and Rutgers did not play this season after facing each other in each of the past four seasons. Maryland won all of those four games, winning 5-2 last season. All-time, Maryland leads the series with Rutgers, 4-1.
The Terps enter the NCAA Tournament with an 11-8-1 record overall while Rutgers is 10-6-2. Penn State, which is the No. 5 seed in the tournament is 16-2-3 while Navy was 17-4-1.
Maryland lost to Penn State in the NCAA Tournament Second Round at Ludwig Field last season, 2-1 in a driving, cold rain storm. The Terps also travelled to Penn State for the NCAA Tournament in 1999, where they battled, but fell to No. 6 Penn State, 3-2 on Nov. 14, 1999.
