Terps Sign Trotter to Play Next Fall

Nov. 17, 2003

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Katie Trotter of Upper St. Clair High School in Pittsburgh, Pa., has signed a National Letter of Intent to play women's golf at the University of Maryland next fall, Terrapin coach Jason Rodenhaver announced Monday.

Trotter was the runner-up at the 2003 Pennsylvania State High School Championships for Upper St. Clair, the same high school attended by current Maryland women's golfer Kelly MacWhinnie and her brother Bobby, who is a junior on the men's team. The Upper St. Clair team has won 10 consecutive district titles in Pennsylvania.

"Katie is a very strong player," said Rodenhaver, now in his fifth season as women's head coach at Maryland. "She has the ability and length off the tee to dominate a golf course. She will have an immediate impact for us in the fall, and I look for her to help us continue our success both on and off the golf course."

Trotter posted a 36.0 scoring average in her high-school matches. She has bests of 32 for nine holes and a 69 over 18 holes. Trotter had a pair of top-10 finishes this summer in American Junior Golf Association events.
