
Eight Terps Named NFHCA Mid Atlantic Region

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - A total of eight Maryland Terrapin field hockey players were named 2003 STX/National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-Mid Atlantic Region, which was announced today. Four were selected to the first team and four others were selected second team.
Junior Emily Boyer (Oak Park, Ill.), sophomores Jackie Ciconte (Wilmington, Del.) and Lauren Powley (Mountaintop, Pa.) and freshman Paula Infante (Santiago, Chile) were all named first team All-Mid Atlantic Region.
Infante is the team's points and goals leader with 45 and 19, respectively. Infante was also named to the All-ACC team and the conference all-tournament squad.
Ciconte is also an all-conference performer, earning all-region honors for the first time in her career. She has set personal bests with 17 goals, 37 points and four game-winning goals. She was also named ACC Player of the Week after leading the Terps to a 3-2, overtime win at North Carolina.
Powley, a third team All-American last year, has dished out 14 assisted and scored two goals after not notching a point all last season as a freshman. She also earned All-ACC status earlier this year.
A defender, Boyer earns first team all-region honors for the second time. She leads the team with 15 assists on the season, starting in all 23 games.
Juniors Colleen Barbieri (Centereach, N.Y.), Kristin Harris (Lititz, Pa.) and Sara Silvetti (Wapwallopen, Pa.) and sophomore Tiffany Marsh (Marathon, N.Y.) also earn second team All-Mid Atlantic region accolades. Harris was named to the second team last year, while Silvetti and Marsh earn the honor for the first time in their careers. Barbieri was a first team All-American last year. She collected her 100th-career point in the NCAA Tournament second round game against Penn State Sunday. She is also 10th all-time at Maryland with 43-career goals.
The Terps have advanced to the NCAA Tournament semifinals which will be played on Friday, Nov. 21 at in Amherst, Mass. Maryland, seeded third, faces second-seeded Duke at 7:30 p.m. The winner plays in the championship game against the winner of the top-seeded Wake Forest/Michigan matchup on Sunday, Nov. 23.
