COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Three Maryland field hockey players were recognized by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association, earning STX/NFHCA Division I All-America honors, which was announced Monday. Freshman Paula Infante and sophomore Lauren Powley were selected to the first team, while sophomore Jackie Ciconte was named second team.
Powley (Mountaintop, Pa.) earns All-America status for the second time. She was named to the third team last year as a freshman. This season, she had 14 assists and two goals, both of which are career highs. Ranked in the top 10 nationally in assists, she earned All-ACC honors for the first time while helping the Terps reach the NCAA Championship semifinals.
Infante (Santiago, Chile) and Ciconte (Wilmington, Del.) both earn All-America accolades for the first time. Both were also named All-ACC earlier in the season. Infante has led the team in points all year, accumulating 45 points, and also ended with a team-high 19 goals. Ranked in the top 20 nationally in both categories, she also earned NCAA and ACC All-Tournament honors.
Ciconte put together a career season where she posted personal bests with 17 goals, 37 points and four game-winning goals. She was named ACC Player of the Week after collecting a goal and an assist in the 3-2 overtime win at North Carolina.
Maryland has had at least one Terp named first team All-American since 1987, and at least two since 1991.
