Junior outside hitter Sarah Treadwell reflects on the volleyball team's outstanding season. The Terrapins were ACC Champions, advanced to the second round of the NCAA and are ranked No. 24 in the latest USA TODAY / AVCA Coaches' Poll.
Wow, it has been quite a year. After being picked to finish seventh in the conference, we were able to eventually prove everyone wrong and WIN ACC's. Although the year didn't end as we had planned, we met and exceeded many of our preseason goals.
Overall, this team was one of the hardest working and determined teams that I have ever been a part of. We put volleyball back on the map at Maryland and it should be there for a long time to come. It was amazing what we could do when we put everything we had into it and didn't back down until we accomplished our goals.
Our three seniors (Lauren Wilson, Lynnsy Jones, and Fiona DeFreitas) have brought a lot of things to this program and they will all be greatly missed. Although we are bitter about the way it ended, the 2003 team will go down as one of the best ever here at Maryland and while we will miss the seniors from this year, I know everyone is going to come back this spring more determined than ever to have another successful year.
