
Mahar Named Mid-Atlantic Freshman Of The Year By Soccer Buzz

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland freshman Mallory Mahar (Medina, Ohio) has been named the Soccer Buzz Mid-Atlantic Freshman of the Year. The midfielder/defender was also named a first team Freshman All-American, a first team Mid-Atlantic All-Regional star and selected to the Mid-Atlantic All-Freshman team. She played in all 22 games, scoring five goals and adding two assists for 12 points in her college debut.
Junior forward Katie Ludwig (Mount Laurel, N.J.) was named to the Mid-Atlantic All-Regional first team along with Mahar after she had a breakout season with six goals and four assists for 16 points.
Redshirt-freshman Kimmy Francis (Richboro, Pa.) was named a third team Freshman All-American as well as earning a spot on the Mid-Atlantic All-Regional first team and the Mid-Atlantic All-Freshman team. In her first season on the field, Francis had four goals and eight assists for 16 points.
True freshman Ali Andrzejewski (Lutherville, Md.) was also named to the Mid-Atlantic All-Freshman team after she led the team in scoring with nine goals and 20 points.
Overall, the Terps went 13-8-1 in 2002 as ACC Coach of the Year Shannon Higgins-Cirovski led the team to the NCAA second round in its seventh berth in eight years.
