BATON ROUGE, La. -
Freshman John Eades paced University of Maryland's effort in its first spring tournament this weekend, carding a three-round total of 221 and placing in a tie for 24th at the LSU Spring Invitational here.
The Terps, who came into the tournament having had little in the way of preparation because of the multiple snow storms that have hit the Mid-Atlantic this winter, finished in 18th place with a three-round total of 906. Maryland carded a total of 305 on Sunday after rounds of 303 on Friday and 298 on Saturday.
Eades' tie for 24th marked his best finish in six tournaments as a Terp, eclipsing his previous best of 25th at the Temple Invitational last October. Eades shot rounds of 74-72-75 for his five-over par total of 221. Eades matched teammate Tim Kane for the Terps' low round on Sunday.
Other Terp scores included senior John Moheyer (T-44th, 75-72-78-225), junior Tim Kane (T-71st, 80-76-74-230), freshman Jeff Spradlin (T-71st, 74-78-78-230) and sophomore Bobby MacWhinnie (94th, 83-90-82-255).
Host LSU captured the title with a four-over total of 868. The Tigers edged out Jacksonville State (873) and College of Charleston (875). The Tigers also featured the individual medalist in John Humphries, who fired rounds of 71-69-71 for a five-under-par total of 211 to beat Central Florida's Matt LeConche by two shots.
