Women's Golfers Finish Fourth In Greenville

GREENVILLE, N.C. - The Maryland women's golf team matched their best finish of the fall, ending the rain-shortened Bradford Creek Women's Intercollegiate in fourth place. Tied for eighth place after 18 holes, the Terps improved 17 strokes to finish with a collective 298, marking only the second time in team history that they have broken 300 for a round. The first came in the final round of the Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate Nov. 5.
Senior Erin Clasper (North Potomac, Md.) and junior Marie Harper (West Point, Va.) each fired a collective seven-over-par 151, tying for 16th-place to lead the Terps. Separated by one stroke after round one, Harper's one-over-par 73 in the second round one-upped Clasper's 74, allowing her to catch her teammate. Harper climbed 12 spots in the second day, and Clasper moved up seven.
Senior Carter Crowther (Kilmarnock, Va.) also cracked the top 25, tying for 22nd-place with a two-round total of 153, just two strokes behind her teammates. Crowther carded a 75 in the second round, a three-stroke improvement on her first-round score, as she improved six spots.
With a second-round 76 and total of 158, junior Stacey Wolejko (Hatfield, Mass.) tied for 36th-place. Her six-stroke improvement allowed her to climb 13 spots in the individual standings. Sophomore Kristen Shew (Hockessin, Del.) finished 50th with a two-day total of 163.
Maryland's 298 was the second-best team score of round two and third-best of the entire tournament. Host East Carolina had the top two with 287 in the first round and 292 in the second.
The Terps finished one stroke ahead of fifth-place Augusta State and nine strokes behind third-place Coastal Carolina. East Carolina won the tournament and Augusta State's Leah Hart took the individual title with a one-under-par 143.
After a two-week break, the Terps will travel to Daytona Beach, Fla., for the Hatter Spring Fling March 24-25.
