Terps Place Second For Second Straight Tournament

HARRISONBURG, Va. - With a third-round 307, the Maryland women's golf team improved seven strokes from day one, climbing one spot in the standings to finish the JMU/Bonnie Hoover Invitational in second place with a two-day total of 945. The Terps matched their best finish of the year, which they accomplished at their last tournament, the Hatter Spring Fling March 24-25.
Sophomore Kristen Shew (Hockessin, Del.) paced the Terps with a 16-over-par 232, finishing in sixth place. In eighth place, senior Erin Clasper (North Potomac, Md.) was just two strokes behind with an 18-over-par 234. Both Shew and Clasper fired a 77 in the final round.
Junior Marie Harper (West Point, Va.) carded a third-round 76 and tied for 12th place with a 22-over-par 238, just one stroke out of the top ten. Senior Carter Crowther (Kilmarnock, Va.) tied for 21st place with a 26-over-par 242. Crowther's 77 in the third round left her one stroke out of the top 20. Junior Stacey Wolejko (Hatfield, Mass.) carded an 84 in the final round and tied for 46th place with a 36-over-par 252.
In third place after the first two rounds, trailing second-place Princeton by three, the Terps gained 11 strokes on the Tigers, who finished in fourth place after a third-round 321. Host James Madison won the tournament with a total score of 935, ten strokes better than Maryland. Ohio finished third, five strokes behind the Terps. Princeton's Avery Kiser held onto her first-day lead and defeated James Madison's Jessica Lewis by one stroke.
The Terps are next in action April 18-20 at the ACC Championship in Clemmons, N.C.
