
Women's Golfers Improve 21, Remain In Sixth

CLEMMONS, N.C. - After firing a 327 in the first round, the Maryland women's golf team improved 21 strokes, carding a 306, but remains in sixth place at the ACC Championship. The Terps' two-round total of 633 is 65 strokes over par and leaves them 10 strokes behind fifth-place Florida State.
Tied for 11th place with a 154, senior Carter Crowther (Kilmarnock, Va.) paces the Terps. With her 5-over-par 76, she improved two strokes on her 78 from the first round and is just one stroke out of the top 10.
Sophomore Kristen Shew (Hockessin, Del.) carded a 6-over-par 77 in the second round, improving five strokes on her first-round score. She is in 19th place with a 159. Senior Erin Clasper (North Potomac, Md.) is just one stroke behind Shew with an 18-over-par 160. She carded an 81 in the second round and is tied for 20th place.
Juniors Marie Harper (West Point, Va.) and Stacey Wolejko (Hatfield, Mass.) are tied for 27th place with scores of 165. Harper carded a 77 in the second round, an 11-stroke improvement, while Wolejko improved 13 strokes with her 76.
At 32-over-par 600, Duke remains in first place, eight strokes in front of second-place Wake Forest. The Blue Devils carded a 290 in round two, a 20-stroke improvement from round one. North Carolina's Meaghan Francella, Wake Forest's Nuria Clau and Duke's Virada Nirapathpongporn are tied atop the individual leader board at 4-over-par 146. Francella and Clau each carded a 2-under 69 in the second round, while Nirapathpongporn fired a par 71.
After inclement weather on Friday, team scores improved Saturday by an average of 21.3 strokes. Play concludes Sunday at the par-71, 6,348-yard Salem Glen Country Club, with the first pairing set to tee off at 8:30 a.m.
