COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Led by rising seniors Marie Harper, Katie Redeker and Stacey Wolejko, the 2003-2004 women's golf team gets its season rolling on September 15, when they swing down to Charleston, S.C., to take part in the Cougar Hill Classic.
In October, the Terps will participate in two tournaments. First, they will travel to State College, Pa., to compete in the Nittany Lion Invitational. Then, the team heads south to Sandesin, Fla., site of the ACC/SEC Challenge.
Last fall the Terps carded below 300 for the first time in the program's young history on Kiawah Island, S.C.. They will look to duplicate that feat this year as they return to Kiawah Island in the team's final tune-up for the ACC's - the Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate, on November 3 and 4.
"With this fall marking the beginning of our fifth season, this schedule is by far our best one to date," Coach Rodenhaver noted. "Each event has a quality field, so we will find out how good we are with our first event."
In addition to a strong returning nucleus, the Terps welcome four new faces aboard: Kelly MacWhinnie from Upper St. Clair High School in Pittsburgh, Pa., Jessica Reno from St. Mark's High School in Wilmington, Del., Katie Stepanek from Guilford High School in Guilford, Conn., and Maggie Trainor from Highland Secondary School in Dumdas, Ontario, Canada.
"I have had a chance to see all four play at one time or another and they are all good, quality players," remarked Rodenahver. "Some will be playing right away, although we are not sure who yet."
