Members of the volleyball squad will be contributing journals throughout the year, giving viewpoints on the team, matches and the season. In the first installment, junior outside hitter Sarah Treadwell (Pearland, Texas) discusses preseason training, the move to Comcast Center Gymnasium and the season-opener against Tennessee.
Our preseason practices have been pretty intense so far. On a typical day, we get up early and have weights for an hour and a half and then practice until noon. After lunch, we come back for practice from 2:30 to 6 p.m. and then we have our nights off. I'm actually looking forward to classes starting for the first time ever because it will be nice to have only one practice a day instead of two!
Moving over to the Comcast Center Gym has been pretty exciting. It seems like it will be really loud so we're all anxious to play there.
All of us are looking forward to our tournament next weekend with Tennessee, Michigan State and Villanova. It will be good to finally play against people other than each other! We played Tennessee my freshman year and they beat us, and Michigan State was in the NCAA Sweet Sixteen last season. So it should be tough, but I think we can beat all of the teams we are playing. It's just a matter of putting everything together.
Our newcomers are all really starting to come around. Our practices are probably more intense than they were used to coming in, but they will all be strong additions to our team and will help to give us depth.
Overall, we have really great team chemistry this year, and everyone is focused and anxious to play!
