What's Up With Women's Soccer On The Road In Seattle - Day 5

Aug. 31, 2003

Sophomore Danielle Malagari wraps up her daily journal of the Terps' adventures in the Great Northwest. Maryland posted a 3-0 win over Washington State on Sunday, but not before some interesting findings on the field before the game.

SEATTLE -- Gameday.

We arrived at the field with about an hour until game time. The ground crews was out attending to the field and fixing some divots that were created from earlier play during the weekend .... or so we thought.

They were actually out picking up geese poop that was scattered all over the field. It looked as though the poop was recent because it was still steaming. Before we laced up our boots to start warm-up, assistant coach Kerry Dziczkaniec and Carly Viher were even helping to clean the field by using our cones which we use to train. It was a sight to see. We finished warming up and it was time to face the Washington State Cougars.

After a slow start during the game, we scored two quick goals, both by Kimmy Francis to take a 2-0 lead. That really boosted our confidence. After a while, Simone Dekker scored her second goal of the tournament to make it 3-0. That was the end of the scoring action. You can read about the game on umterps.com, right here (Game Recap). That's not my job! I use write What's Up With Women's Soccer.

After the win, we headed back to the hotel to clean up and check out. We went to the UNC-Washington game after that. It was a very good match that went into overtime with UNC coming out on top. While at the game, we stuffed our faces with hot dogs and pretzels. It was a grand time in the beautiful sunshine.

The team then hopped into the vans and headed out to Shannon's parents house one more time. On our way, we stopped at a local food store to get more food to eat. Mr. Higgins grilled up the meal after we ate a ton of chips and dip. All in all it has been a good day.

Overall, this trip has been a blast for the Terps. Hope you enjoyed reading about it from my perspective. I look forward to giving you more of my insight as the season moves along.

Signing off from Seattle, one last time, this is Danielle Malagari and GO TERPS!
