
New Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex Opens This Weekend

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland field hockey team opens the 2003 home slate in the new, state-of-the-art Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex this weekend when it hosts the Terrapin Invitational Sept. 12-14. Admission to the games is free and parking on Friday and Sunday is also free. Parking on Saturday is free prior to 12 p.m. After noon, parking is $8.
The new home of the three-time national champion Terps, the facility meets the highest field standards of the Federation of International Hockey (F.I.H.). Phase I of the fan-friendly facility features a water-based nylon Astroturf 12 playing surface and a remote watering system. Phase II and III of the project are expected to include a full concourse level plaza with restrooms and concession areas as well as team locker rooms, training room and media room.
The Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex, which will have a capacity of 1,000, is located on Paint Branch Drive (off Rt. 193) adjacent to Comcast Center. Parking for fans is available in on-site lots or the nearby Terrapin Trail Garage.
American and Pacific open the Terrapin Invitational on Fri., Sept. 12 at 6 p.m. Maryland squares off with Rutgers on Sat., Sept. 13 at 12 p.m. The conclusion of the tournament takes place on Sunday, Sept. 14 with the Eagles battling the Scarlet Knights at 12 p.m. followed by the UM-Pacific clash at 2 p.m.
The Terps are 4-0 this season after a big 2-1 victory over Old Dominion. Maryland head coach Missy Meharg is looking to reach another milestone in her career as she is just two wins from reaching the 250-career win mark.
