COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Five former field hockey players are participating in a series of test matches between the United States and the Ireland National Team in Stanford, Calif. The five-game series with Ireland serves as the final domestic tune-up for the Stars & Stripes before leaving for the Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Auckland, New Zealand, March 18-28. The US will look to sweep the series on Saturday, Jan. 16.
Former All-Americans Dina Rizzo ('02), team captain Kate Kauffman-Beach ('00) and Kelli Smith ('00) are members of the US team and have helped the squad to the four wins. They square off for the final time in the series against another former All-American Lynsey McVicker ('97), who is captain of the Ireland team, and goalkeeper Angela Platt ('98).
The US continues its stay in California for tilts with Canada from Jan. 21-24. For more information on USA Field Hockey, visit www.usfieldhockey.org.
