
Four Terps Honored By Soccer Buzz

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland women's soccer had four players honored by Soccer Buzz for their outstanding play in 2003. Sophomores Kimmy Francis (Richboro, Pa) and Mallory Mahar (Medina, Ohio) were named to the All Mid-Atlantic Second Team. Senior midfielder Jen Biscoe (Baltimore, Md.) was named to the All Mid-Atlantic Third Team and freshman defender Ashly Kennedy (Edgewater, Md.) was named to the All Freshman Mid-Atlantic Team.
Both Francis and Mahar were named to the NSCAA/adidas All Mid-Atlantic Third Team as well in 2003. While Mahar and Biscoe were honored as All-ACC Second Team members and Kennedy earned a spot on the ACC All-Freshman Team as well this year.
Francis led the Terps in all offensive categories with nine goals, six assists and 24 points. She played in all 21 games, starting 20. She tallied a team-high four game-winning goals and scored the first goal in a game on three occasions. Francis was named to MVP of the Maryland/adidas Classic and named to the Soccer America and Soccer Buzz Teams of the Week after scoring the game-winning goal in the title-game win over Tennessee. Francis was a third team honoree by Soccer Buzz in 2002.
Mahar started the final 13 games of the season and played in 20 after coming back from a torn ACL suffered in April. Mahar had 10 points on four goals and two assists. Mahar was also named to the All-ACC Second Team for the second year in a row. Mahar was Soccer Buzz's Mid-Atlantic Region Freshman of the Year in 2002 and earned a spot on the region's first team last season.
Biscoe played in all 21 games, starting 19 and had 10 points on three goals and four assists and was been the team's engine in the midfield as a senior captain. She finished her career fifth all-time in career assists with 18, tied with Lindsay Givens. She was also fourth all-time in career game-winning goals with seven. She stands tied for 11th all-time in career points with 40.
Kennedy started 20 games and was a stalwart on defense. She has played 1752 minutes of a possible 1846. She has helped the defense to a 1.20 goals against average -- as it did not allow more than one goal in the final 10 games of the season. She scored her first career goal at George Mason on Oct. 22.
