CLEMSON, S.C. - The University of Maryland volleyball team won its second-consecutive conference match Friday night, defeating Clemson, 3-1 (30-23, 30-28, 23-30, 30-22), in Jervey Gym. The Terps now own a 9-8 record (4-3 ACC), while the loss drops the Tigers to 11-8 (3-4 ACC). Jade Brown led the Terrapins with 19 kills, while Maria DiLivio had a match-high 24 digs for Maryland.

Five Terps had at least 11 kills in the balanced offensive effort. Rachel Wagener hit a team-high .400 and posted 14 kills and Jennifer Dewalt added 13 kills and six blocks. Stephanie Smith and Sarah Treadwell also had good showings with 12 and 11 kills, respectively. Treadwell added 18 digs while freshman Beth Gillming notched 12 digs and a team-high three aces.

With four kills and four blocks in game one, Stephanie Smith led the Terps to a 30-23 victory. Maryland fell behind to the Tigers, 15-19, but regrouped after a timeout and ended the game with a 15-4 run for the win. Brown, who started at outside hitter for the second match in a row, tallied six first-game kills and the Terps out-hit Clemson, .368-.234, to close out the first game.

It looked as if Clemson would even the match at one game apiece as the Tigers stretched out as much as a six-point lead early in the second game. The Terps, however, benefited from five kills each from Brown, Dewalt and Treadwell, and hit .400 as a team to claim the 30-28 victory. DiLivio led all players in the second game with five digs in addition to having a service ace, while Wagener had four kills on five swings with no errors to hit .800.

The Terps struggled offensively in game three, hitting just .095. Despite six kills from Brown, five digs from Treadwell and two aces by Beth Gillming, the Terps dropped the game by a score of 23-30.

Maryland would come back and seal the victory with a strong fourth game, as Rachel Wagener blasted five kills and DiLivio had 10 digs. The Terps out-hit the Tigers, .300-.160, and held on for the 30-22 victory.

With the win, the Terrapins snapped Clemson's three-match win streak and notched their second-consecutive conference victory.

Kathy Shahrokh came in for the Terps and played excellent defense, as she posted 10 digs on the night. Terrapin setter Aimee Huddleston was just shy of her season-high with 60 assists, and also contributed four kills, six digs and four blocks.

Clemson was led by Brittany Rose with 20 kills and seven digs. Lori Ashton also had a strong showing for the Tigers with 17 kills and eight blocks.

Maryland returns to action when it faces Georgia Tech Saturday night in Atlanta at 7 p.m.
