CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The Maryland volleyball team dropped a four-game match to North Carolina (30-23, 30-22, 21-30, 30-16) Saturday night at Carmichael Auditorium in Chapel Hill, N.C. With the loss, the Terps are now 6-7 (1-2 ACC) on the season, while North Carolina improved to 9-7 (4-1 ACC).

Sarah Treadwell led the Terps with a double-double, registering a team-high 18 kills and 15 digs. Rachel Moore led the Terps defensively with a match-high 21 digs.

Rachel Wagener and Stephanie Smith each had nine kills for the Terps. Smith added four blocks, while freshman Jade Brown appeared in her first collegiate match and notched eight kills.

The Terrapins never seemed to find their offensive rhythm in game one, as they hit .000 as a team and the Tar Heels jumped out to a 17-8 lead. The Terps, led by Treadwell with three first-game kills, chipped away at the lead and pulled within four points at 25-21, but North Carolina put the game away, 30-23.

In game two, the Terrapins were outhit, .174 to .070, and could not overcome another early deficit as the Tar Heels took the game, 30-22.

Maryland got an offensive spark in game three in the form of freshman Jade Brown, who made her collegiate debut. The dynamic outside hitter posted five third-game kills and also had a dig in her first appearance in a Terp uniform. Treadwell also had the hot hand in the third game, as she blasted nine kills to lead the Terps to a 30-21 victory.

The Terps found themselves playing catch-up again in the fourth game, as Carolina led by an 11-5 margin early in the game. Again the early deficit proved too much and Carolina clinched the match with a 30-16 victory.

North Carolina was led by Molly Pyles, who had 19 kills and 18 digs for the Tar Heels.

Maryland wraps up its four-match road swing Sunday in Raleigh, as the Terps and Wolfpack are set to tangle at 2 p.m. in Reynolds Coliseum.
