COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Freshman outside hitter Jade Brown had a career night for the Terrapins, but the University of Maryland volleyball team dropped a tough match to Wake Forest Friday night in Comcast Center Pavilion, 3-2 (25-30, 30-25, 17-30, 30-24, 15-12). The loss gives the Terrapins a 9-11 record on the year, 4-5 in ACC play, while it was the Demon Deacons' first conference victory of the season and runs their record to 9-11 overall, 1-8 in the ACC.

Brown led all players with a career-high 24 kills and three service aces. She also registered her first career double-double with 14 digs, and also added five blocks (two solo).

The Terrapins had a balanced attack, as five players, including Brown, were in double digits in the kills category. Sarah Treadwell notched 16 kills to go with 15 digs for her 12th double-double of the year, while Rachel Wagener posted 14 kills and four blocks.

Maryland was dominant in game one, as the team hit .341 and Wagener had five kills to lead the Terps to a 30-25 victory.

Erin Borhart, with seven kills from her position of setter, led the Demon Deacons in game two for the 30-25 victory to even the match.

Maryland again seemed to be in control in the third game, as it limited Wake Forest to a negative hitting percentage and just 17 points. Freshman Charese Baldwin, who entered the match in the third game and replaced Wagener, registered two blocks for the Terps, while Brown led all players with four third-game kills and Maryland won, 30-17.

Wake Forest would not go away, however, as they battled back to win games four (30-24) and five (15-12).

Jennifer Dewalt finished with 10 kills and 10 digs for her first double-double of 2004. The senior also contributed six blocks.

Stephanie Smith had 11 kills, two aces and eight blocks for the Terps.

Maryland out-hit Wake Forest, .209-.198, and outblocked the Demon Deacons, 16-11.

Terrapins Maria DiLivio and Beth Gillming both had strong outings, as they had 12 digs apiece. Aimee Huddleston dished out a season-high 66 assists and had 13 digs and three blocks.

Wake Forest was led by Kim Stern with 18 kills, Valerie Rydberg with 11 kills and a match-high 21 digs and Erin Borhart with 13 kills, 42 assists and 17 digs.

The Terps are back in action Saturday at 5 p.m., when they host the Duke Blue Devils in Comcast Center Pavilion.
