COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Fourth-ranked Maryland field hockey plays their final regular season contest before the postseason begins when it hosts James Madison at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex on Friday, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. The Terps will also honor their six seniors in a pre-game ceremony.
Maryland (13-4) is looking to bounce back from a heartbreaking 2-1 overtime loss to No. 2 North Carolina last weekend when it faces JMU. While the Dukes are just 4-14, 12 of those losses have been to ranked squads and 11 have been setbacks by two goals or less.
The night also marks the final regular season home contest for seniors Colleen Barbieri (Centereach, N.Y.), Anja Boettcher (Ingolstadt, Germany), Emily Boyer (Oak Park, Ill.), Kristin Harris (Lititz, Pa.), Kerry Hearsey (Leicester, England) and Sara Silvetti (Wapwallopen, Pa.). During their tenures, the Terrapins have posted a record of 70-13 for an .843 winning percentage, so far. This class has helped Maryland to two 20-win campaigns, two trips to the NCAA Final Four, one NCAA Finals appearance and an ACC title. They still have a chance to capture a second conference crown next week and their first national title in mid-November.
The Terps lead the all-time series against James Madison, 21-5-3. Last season, a penalty stroke gave Maryland a 2-1 victory in Harrisonburg, Va.
