COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Freshman outside hitter Jade Brown blasted a career-high 15 kills, hit .375 and had three blocks, but the University of Maryland volleyball team was defeated by Florida State, 3-1 (26-30, 30-19, 30-25, 30-28), Friday night at Comcast Center Pavilion. With the loss, the Terps now stand at 7-8 on the year, 2-3 in the ACC, while the Seminoles improved to 9-6 overall, 2-3 in conference action.

Maryland junior middle blocker Rachel Wagener became the Terps' all-time career leader for block assists, as she needed just one to surpass Sherry Smith's (1992-95) and Kelly Malins' (1991-94) career totals of 303. Wagener, with 11 block assists on the night, has now recorded more than any other Terp in history (314). She also had seven kills.

The Terps looked in control during game one, as Wagener pounded five kills and Sarah Treadwell added four and Maryland out-hit FSU, .265-.222, for the 30-26 victory. The Seminoles' balanced attack, however, would prove to be too much for the Terps, as four players had at least 11 kills for FSU. Leading the way was Kristen Rust with a match-high 19 kills and 15 digs. Despite Maryland holding a 17-11 blocking advantage for the match, the `Noles went on to take games two (30-19), three (30-25) and four (30-28).

Brown, playing in just her third collegiate match, reached double digits for kills for the first time, registered 15 on 32 swings with just three errors. She also added three digs for the Terps.

Treadwell recorded 10 kills and 12 digs for her 10th double-double of the year, while freshman Beth Gillming added 12 digs and two kills. Maria DiLivio was also in double digits for digs, contributing 11, along with an ace.

Terp setter Aimee Huddleston handed out 40 assists and had a career-high eight blocks, while Stephanie Smith had eight kills and three blocks (two solo).

The Terrapins are back in action Saturday at 8 p.m., when they host the Miami Hurricanes in Comcast Center Pavilion. Fans should note that the Maryland football team hosts Georgia Tech at 3:30 p.m. in Byrd Stadium. Due to traffic tie-ups associated with cars leaving campus after that game, those fans traveling to campus for the volleyball match would be encouraged to try and arrive close to the 8 p.m. start time.
