A Look Back At The ACC Tournament
For the second time this season, the Maryland women's soccer team took No. 1 ranked North Carolina into a second overtime. But on Wednesday evening, for the second time this season, the Tar Heels were able to come out on top, this time by a 1-0 win in the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament at the SAS Soccer Center in Cary, N.C. North Carolina's All-American forward Heather O'Reilly took a cross from Jamie Gilbert and headed the game winner into the right corner of the net in the 103rd minute. UNC pressured the Terrapin defense throughout the game, but sophomore goalkeeper Nikki Resnick was up to the challenge, stopping a season high 10 shots.
Maryland women's soccer team advanced to the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament by beating NC State 4-2 in a shootout Sunday, Oct. 31 at Ludwig Field. Sophomore goalkeeper Nikki Resnick came up big for the Terps in the shootout, stopping two shots, including the first one, to take some of the pressure off of the Maryland shooters.
With the game a 0-0 tie through four periods of play a shootout would determine the winner. Resnick made a diving save to her left on NC State's first attempt to give the Terps the advantage. Kimmy Francis converted the first PK to give Maryland a 1-0 lead. NCSU's Anna Helenius made good on the Wolfpack's second attempt to tie the shootout at 1-1, but Simone Dekker responded by making her attempt to put the Terps back on top 2-1. NC State's Amy Graul tried to tie the shootout, but this time Resnick made the save diving to her right to keep the score 2-1. Maryland's Nataly Arias and NC State's Megan Sadler each converted their attempts to give Maryland a 3-2 edge with one more Maryland goal being the clincher. That task fell to Terp freshman Carissa Gilbert, who missed seven matches earlier this season due to injury. Gilbert fired the ball past Connors into the bottom right corner of the net to give Maryland the victory and send the team to the ACC Quarterfinals.

Loyola enters the Tournament on an automatic bid as a result of winning the MAAC Tournament with a 2-0 win over Rider. Over its last 12 games, Loyola has only allowed one goal, that coming in a 4-1 win over Fairfield on Oct. 10.
