Maryland Volleyball Defeated By Georgia Tech, 3-0

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland volleyball team dropped a match to Georgia Tech, 3-0 (30-23, 35-33, 30-23), Friday night in Comcast Center Pavilion. The Terrapins were led by Stephanie Smith with 10 kills and Rachel Wagener with nine kills and five blocks.

With the loss, the Terrapins fell to 12-13 (7-8 ACC), while the Yellow Jackets won their 20th-straight match and remained unbeaten in conference play at 15-0 (22-5 overall).

Smith was the only Terrapin in double digits for kills and she hit a team-high .381 for the match. Jade Brown and Jennifer Dewalt both posted seven kills for Maryland. Beth Gillming led the Terps defensively with 12 digs.

Maryland was out-hit in game one, .268-.143, and Jayme Gergen, Ulrike Stegemann and Laura Kuhn each tallied four kills to help the Yellow Jackets win the game, 30-23.

The Yellow Jackets, who lead the ACC in hitting percentage, barely out-hit the Terps in game two, .236-.222. The Terps got four kills from both Brown and Smith, but Maryland could not capitalize as Georgia Tech earned the 35-33 victory.

Georgia Tech was led by Lauren Sauer in game three with five kills and the Jackets won, 30-23.

Maryland is back in action Saturday in Comcast Center Pavilion. The Terps take on Clemson at 6 p.m., and the match is Senior Night for Jennifer Dewalt, Maria DiLivio, Aimee Huddleston, Kathy Shahrokh and Sarah Treadwell.
