COLLEGE PARK, Md. - After scoring an NCAA Tournament record five goals on Saturday in the first-round game vs. Delaware, Maryland sophomore Paula Infante was named the www.womenfieldhockey.com weekly Honor Roll. The Terrapins have advanced to the NCAA Tournament semifinals on Friday, Nov. 19 in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Infante (Santiago, Chile) tallied all five goals in the Terps' (17-5) 5-2 thumping of No. 14 Delaware in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday in College Park. Maryland went on to defeat No. 7 American, 2-0, on Sunday to advance to the national semifinal game against Wake Forest. Infante's 10 points in the game are also a tournament record.
Infante also tied the school single-game record for goals which was set by Judy Dougherty in 1980. An All-ACC team and All-ACC Tournament squad pick last week, Infante was named first team All-American as a defender last year.
The second-ranked and third-seeded Terps are making their second-straight NCAA Tournament semifinal appearance and fifth in six years. Maryland has won the NCAA title three times (1987, 1993, 1999) and looks to capture its fourth when it faces the Demon Deacons who are the two-time defending NCAA Champion. Friday's game begins at 7 p.m. The winner moves on to the title game on Sunday, Nov. 21 at 12:30 p.m. The match will be televised on CSTV.
