Wagener and Brown Earn All-ACC Honors

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Maryland junior middle blocker Rachel Wagener has been selected as a second-team All-ACC honoree and freshman outside hitter Jade Brown was named to the ACC all-freshman squad, the conference announced at the annual tournament banquet Wednesday night.
Wagener, a two-time second-team member has led the Terps' block all season while also contributing offensive firepower. Already the school record-holder for blocks in a season (200 in 2003), block assists in a season (177 in 2003; also an ACC record) and career block assists (363 and counting), the junior is also quickly approaching the career mark for total blocks, 417 set by Kelli Myers from 1987-89. With just nine more rejections, Wagener will tie Myers' mark and with 10 more will become Maryland's all-time leader in the category.
Brown, who recorded her first-career kill on Oct. 2 at North Carolina, has exploded onto the conference scene by averaging 3.32 kills per game and notching over 150 kills this season. In 14 matches, the Atlanta, Ga., native has reached double digits in kills eight times, highlighted by a 24-kill performance on Oct. 22 vs. Wake Forest.
The Terps open play at the 2004 ACC Volleyball Tournament Thursday at 5 p.m. vs. Wake Forest.
