Maryland fell behind by as many as eight points early in game one and trailed 7-14 when sophomore Teryn Papp entered the game to serve for the Terps. Two kills from Sarah Treadwell and two service aces from Papp ignited the Terps and began a 7-3 run that pulled them to within three points at 14-17. From there, the teams traded points until Maryland was able to cut the margin to just one point on a Maria DiLivio kill, making the score 26-27. After Wake Forest called a timeout, the Demon Deacons managed to notch three points to the Terps' two, and Wake took the first game, 30-28. Maryland was out-hit, .341-.233, and out-blocked, 6-2. The two teams traded sideouts to open the second game, until Maryland was able to string together a Jade Brown solo block and Rachel Wagener/Aimee Huddleston block assist to take a three-point lead at 16-13. The Terps continued to pressure the Demon Deacons with strong blocking and forced Wake to take a timeout after building the lead to five points at 20-15. Led by Wagener with five kills and Dewalt and Stephanie Smith with four kills apiece, the Terps did not relinquish their lead and took evened the match with a 30-26 second-game victory.
