CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The seventh-seeded University of Maryland volleyball team upset No. 2 seed Miami in the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament, 3-1 (30-26, 30-22, 22-30, 30-27), Friday night in Memorial Gymnasium. The Terrapins will face Duke on Saturday at 4 p.m. in the semifinals of the tournament. Maryland was led by Jennifer Dewalt and Sarah Treadwell, as the duo combined for 32 kills.

Both Dewalt (17 kills, 11 digs) and Treadwell (15 kills, 12 digs) posted double-doubles for the Terps. Aimee Huddleston and Jade Brown also reached double-digit kills, recording 11 and 13, respectively. Huddleston nearly notched a triple-double with 51 assists and seven digs to go with a .714 attack percentage, three blocks and an ace. Brown finished with four blocks.

Terp middle blockers Rachel Wagener and Stephanie Smith also had strong outings, as Wagener became the Terps' all-time leading blocker after notching six on the night, and Smith finished with seven kills and a match-high eight blocks.

Maryland started the match strong, hitting .500 as a team in the first game en route to the 30-26 victory. Jennifer Dewalt led the Terps with five kills and an ace, while Aimee Huddleston was three-for-three on attack and dished out 15 first-game assists. Maryland out-blocked the Hurricanes, 3-0, and withstood eight kills from Miami senior Valeria Tipiana to take a one-game lead in the match.

In the second game, the Terrapins stretched out a 12-7 lead prompting a timeout by the Hurricanes. Coming out of the break, Miami went on a 5-2 run to pull within two points at 14-12. Although Miami would go on tie the score at 14 and eventually earn its first lead of the match at 17-16, the Terrapins fought back on the strength of four second-game kills from Sarah Treadwell and Jade Brown and pulled away to earn the 30-22 victory.

Maryland never found its offensive rhythm in the third game, as the team hit just .059. Despite six kills from Treadwell and two blocks from Wagener, the Terrapins fell 22-30. Wagener's two blocks in the third game gave her 419 for her career, making her Maryland's all-time leader in the category. She surpassed Kelli Myers' mark of 418, set from 1987-89. She finished the night with six blocks (421 for her career).

The fourth game was tightly contested but the Terps ended up slightly out-hitting the Hurricanes, .268-.250, and got six kills from Dewalt to earn the 30-27 victory.

Freshman libero Beth Gillming led the Terps with 13 digs.

Maryland, the defending ACC Champion, has now won five ACC Tournament matches in a row, dating back to 2003's championship run in which they won three matches in Orlando, Fla.

Miami was led by Karla Johnson with 22 kills and five blocks.

The Terps meet Duke on Saturday, Nov. 20, at 4 p.m. in Memorial Gymnasium. The Blue Devils are the No. 3 seed in the tournament and defeated sixth-seeded Virginia to advance to the semifinals.

In the other semifinal match Saturday, ninth-seeded Clemson will take on No. 5 seed North Carolina at 1:30 p.m. The Tigers knocked off No. 1 seed Georgia Tech while North Carolina advanced over No. 4 seed Florida State.
