Nov. 23, 2004

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Terrapin volleyball senior Sarah Treadwell has been selected as Collegiate Volleyball Update's National Player of the Week, the publication announced Tuesday. Treadwell, who led Maryland to its second-straight ACC Championship last weekend in Charlottesville, Va., was named the ACC Tournament's Most Valuable Player and tied a tournament record with 70 kills over four matches.

A 5-11 outside hitter from Pearland, Texas, Treadwell led the No. 7 seed Terrapins to a victory over Wake Forest with 21 kills and 18 digs. She hit .439 in the match and also added an ace, two assists and a block.

The next night against No. 2 seed Miami, Treadwell had 15 kills (.303) and 12 digs as Maryland won again in four. Against Duke in the semifinals, she had another double-double, this time 20 kills and 14 digs as the Terps won in five.

Finally, in the championship, Treadwell hit .333 with 14 kills and 10 digs as Maryland swept North Carolina for Maryland's fourth overall ACC Championship.

For the tournament, Treadwell had 70 kills (4.38 per game), which tied the ACC Tournament record for kills, and hit .301. She also tallied 54 digs (3.375 per game). Treadwell was named the ACC tournament MVP for her efforts.

The Terrapins earned an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament with the victory at the conference championships and will await the bracket announcement on Sunday, Nov. 28.

Maryland plays a final regular-season match against Miami University (Ohio) on Saturday, Nov. 27, at 5 p.m. Fans are encouraged to arrive close to match time to avoid traffic tie-ups associated with cars leaving campus after the Maryland-Wake Forest football game, which begins at noon.
