Three Maryland field hockey players were named to the All-ACC Field Hockey team, announced at Thursday's ACC Tournament banquet. Paula Infante and Lauren Powley were each named to the team for the second straight year, while Sara Silvetti received her first career conference recognition.
Infante, an All-ACC and All-America selection a year ago, has started each of the team's 18 games this season and is third on the team in both points (23) and goals (nine). She has scored 28 goals in her career, including her first career hat trick in the team's 7-1 win at Princeton this season. Moving from the backfield to the midfield in 2004, Infante also currently leads the team and ranks fourth in the ACC in shots per game with 3.94.
Lauren Powley also receives her second All-ACC selection in as many years. This season, she leads the team with 12 assists and is 13th in the country in assists per game (0.67/g). She has also scored three goals, two of which being game-winners, and has scored 18 points to tie a career-high.
For Sara Silvetti, it is her first career All-ACC selection. The senior back and team captain has tied a career-high with seven goals so far in 2004 and has anchored a defensive backline that has given up just 1.19 goals per game.
The team, the No. 2 seed in this weekend's ACC Tournament and ranked No. 4 in the current STX/NFHCA poll, will take on No. 3 seed Duke on Friday at 4:00 p.m. The contest will be followed at 7:00 p.m. by No. 1 North Carolina vs. No. 4 Wake Forest, the winner of today's first-round game. The winners will move on to Sunday's Championship Game, which will be played at 1:00 p.m. and televised on RSN.
