Dec. 15, 2004
COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
Four University of Maryland football players have earned All-American recognition in the past few days as various publications compile their list of 2004's top players. Of the four, just one -- cornerback Domonique Foxworth -- has exhausted his eligibility at the collegiate level.
Foxworth was a second team selection of The Sporting News and was joined by junior DE Shawne Merriman on the list of this season's All-Americans. Foxworth was the top cornerback on the nation's 10th-ranked pass defense while Merriman was in the top 10 of the ACC in tackles, sacks, tackles for loss and forced fumbles.
As mentioned earlier in the week, LB D'Qwell Jackson was named second team All-America by Rivals.com. The ACC's leading tackler from 2004 was also named a first team selection by CollegeFootballNews.com and was joined by punter Adam Podlesh who was an honorable mention pick.
Earlier today, Pro Football Weekly named Jackson and Merriman -- both juniors -- honorable mention All-Americans.
