Track Teams Open Outdoor Season At Carolina

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The University of Maryland track and field teams opened the outdoor season at the Tar Heel Opener Saturday. Harold Manning, Florent Groberg, Teyarnte' Carter, Kierra Foster and Justine Kovacs all earned individual victories for the Terrapins.
Carter was a first-place finisher in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.53. She also placed second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.15. Kovacs finished first in the 3,000-meter run (10:02.23), while Tia Burley (fourth, 800 meters, 2:15.76) and Danielle Siebert (second, 1,500 meters, 4:41.28) also placed well for the Terrapin women.
Kierra Foster also came up with a victory, finishing first in the 100-meter hurdles (14.05). Teammate Kristina Keegan was a runner-up in that event, finishing second with a time of 15.66. In the long jump, Heather Houston was a second-place finisher with a leap of 18-06.00, while Bria Johnson grabbed second-place in the shot put (44-07.50).
For the men, Harold Manning and Florent Groberg were both victorious. Manning dominated the 400-meter dash, winning with a time of 47.76, while Groberg finished first in the 1,500-meter run (3:54.96). Mike Fleg also turned in two good performances for the Terrapins, placing second in the 1,500-meter run (3:56.27) and third in the 800 meters (1:55.54).
Adam Ambrus was a runner-up in the 3,000 meters (8:37.17), and Adam Durham finished second in the 400-meter hurdles (55.65).
The Terps are back in action on April 3, when they host the 2004 Terrapin Invitational.
