
Maryland Water Polo Falls to George Washington, 16-4

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Maryland women's water polo team fell to George Washington 16-4 Wednesday evening at Smith Center pool in Washington, D.C. The loss was the Terps' fifth in a row and second of the season to the Colonials. They lost to George Washington 8-1 March 3 in the program's inaugural game.
The Terps found themselves down 1-0 just 18 seconds into the game, and they were down by five goals at the end of the first quarter. With just over three minutes left before halftime, senior Laura Nolan (Towson, Md.) put the Terps on the board with her fourth goal of the season. Maryland went into halftime down 7-1.
Just 25 seconds into the second half, senior Meghan Graves (Kennett Square, Pa.) scored the Terps' second goal, her third of the season. The Colonials went on a 4-0 run before sophomore Allison Kuzniar (St. Charles, Ill.) scored with 30 seconds left in the third quarter, and the Terps were down 11-3. The goal was Kuzniar's first of the season.
The Colonials scored the first four goals of the fourth quarter before senior Sarah Wahba (Crofton, Md.) scored her first goal of the season with 46 seconds left in the game. George Washington would add one more with 35 seconds left, and the Colonials won 16-4.
Junior Juli Jordan (Springfield, Va.) started her first game in goal for the Terps, allowing five goals while stopping two. She also had one steal. Sophomore Marissa Corwin (Orinda, Calif.) returned to her usual position in the second quarter and allowed the final 11 goals. She also had eight saves and three steals.
Nolan had the only two assists of the game for the Terps. Senior Kelly Haisfield (New Carrollton, Md.) had three steals, while senior Elyse Corwin (Orinda, Calif.) had two and Graves added one.
The loss dropped the Terps to 0-5 with just three games remaining in the regular season. They return to the pool Friday at 8 p.m. to take on Villanova at the Villanova Swim Complex.
