
Stepanek Leads Terp Women in Charleston

HANAHAN, S.C. - Kate Stepanek fired a 1-under-par 71 to finish at 147 and tie for 15th place Monday after two rounds of the Cougar Classic women's golf tournament being hosted by the College of Charleston.
Stepanek moved from 42nd to 15th place after her second-round 71. Only two players in the field had better afternoon rounds than the Terrapin sophomore.
As a team, Maryland was in 12th place after 36 holes, shooting rounds of 306 and 311 for a 617 total. The Terps were six shots out of 11th and seven shots out of 10th place.
Also for Maryland on Monday, Jessica Reno was tied for 62nd after rounds of 80 and 78. Two players making their collegiate debuts, freshmen Katie Trotter and Kelly Calkin shot 160 and 161, respectively. Kelly MacWhinnie finished at 162, but shot an opening-round 74 to lead the Terps in the morning.
Tennessee led LSU by two shots after Monday's rounds in the team standings. Violeta Retamoza of the Lady Vols led the field individually at 5-under-par 139, two shots ahead of Virginia's Leah Wigger.
The final round will be played on Tuesday morning.
