Q&A With Kathy Shahrokh

Gameday: What's the most enjoyable class you've taken at Maryland and why?
Kathy Shahrokh: I'd have to say the most enjoyable class I've taken was Human Sexuality, Health 377, because the class dynamic was really interesting. It was a mix of athletes and fraternity people and everyone had a really different or extreme opinion about everything. My professor was Dr. Sawyer and he was just hilarious every single class.

Gameday: What's the worst movie that you own?
KS: The worst movie that I own is "How to Lose a Guy in 10 days." That is the most annoying movie ever made.

Gameday: What is one thing, besides volleyball, that you are an expert on and could teach a class?
KS: I guess I could teach a biology class. I know a good amount about biology and science.

Gameday: If you could have 50 pounds of anything what would it be?
KS: I'll go with 50 pounds of gold so I could melt it and sell it.

Gameday: What's the best concert you've ever been to?
KS: I've only really been to one concert. It was Maya, Jay-Z and few other people. It was my freshman year of college and it was cool but the one thing I didn't like about it was that all the girls were wearing very revealing clothing and trying to get backstage. It was fun even though I felt like I was going to go deaf because the music was so loud.

Gameday: What is the best part about game day?
KS: The best part about our game day is how everyone gets really excited and then we all get in a circle and sing "Mrs. Sally Walker," and we get to watch everyone on the team do some weird dance. What happens is everyone gets in a circle and we chant a song and one person goes in the middle and does a weird dance, then someone else has to copy it. It is really funny and gets us pumped up.

Gameday: If someone made a movie about your volleyball career, what would the name of the movie be, and who would play you?
KS: The two things I think about myself are that I work really hard in practice and I try to make things pretty light and make sure things are fun. So I'm not sure what the name of that movie would be, maybe "Crazy Weird Girl Working Hard." I would really hope that Robin Williams would play me as a woman, sort of like in "Mrs. Doubtfire." I would like to see him play me because I'd like to see him in spandex and knee pads. I think that would be cool.

Gameday: If you could open any kind of restaurant, what kind of food would you serve and where would you open it?
KS: It would have to be a Persian food restaurant, because I love Persian food and I grew up on it and it is what my mom cooks at home. And let's put it right in the middle of College Park.

Gameday: What is one thing you would like to personally accomplish this season?
KS: I would like to be a really consistent passer.

Gameday: Where is one place you would like to visit but haven't yet?
KS: I haven't visited outside the country very much except the Middle East once, but it was when I was very young. I'd like to go see Europe, Greece and Italy. And I'd like to go to Iceland and Hawaii.

Gameday: Who is the teammate you admire most?
KS: I have to say Stephanie Smith. She's really funny and we like to sit in the corner and cackle evilly at each other. She works really hard and has a positive attitude. When she came to Maryland, she didn't know that much about volleyball and she was inexperienced, but she worked really hard to get to where she is righ
