COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Five players had at least eight kills and the University of Maryland volleyball team won its second-straight match in Comcast Center Pavilion, defeating Northern Arizona, 3-0 (30-23, 30-27, 30-26), at the Maryland Invitational Friday night. In the earlier match of the tournament, Butler prevailed against Georgetown, sweeping the Hoyas 3-0 (30-25, 30-27, 30-19).

With the win, the Terps improved to 3-5 on the season while Northern Arizona is now 1-7.

The balanced Terrapin attack was led by Stephanie Smith (11 kills, .375 hitting percentage) and Maria DiLivio (11 kills, 11 digs). DiLivio added two aces, a block and three assists while Smith tallied three block assists.

Senior Sarah Treadwell had a team-high 15 digs to go along with nine kills, and Jennifer Dewalt hit a team-high .500, notching eight kills and just one error on 14 swings. Dewalt added two blocks for the Terps. Rachel Wagener was also very involved in the offense vs. the Lumberjacks, as she had nine kills. She also posted a team-high five blocks and two aces.

As a team, the Terrapins outhit the Lumberjacks, .221 to .181, but were outblocked 10 to 8. Serving was a strong point for the Terps, as they recorded eight aces to Northern Arizona's two.

Senior setter Aimee Huddleston dished out 39 assists while adding four kills, two aces, four blocks and six digs.

Maryland jumped out to an early 11-7 lead and hit .300 for the game to seal the victory, as DiLivio's five first-game kills led the team and the Terps won, 30-23.

Game two was back and forth until the Terps were able to earn a slight edge at 21-19 on consecutive kills from Smith and an ace by DiLivio. Treadwell had four kills and seven digs in game two and the Terps won by a score of 30-27.

In the third game, the Terps outhit the Lumberjacks .244 to .130 and Jen Dewalt led the team with four kills as the Terps prevailed, 30-26.

In the 5 p.m. match between Georgetown and Butler, the Bulldogs swept the Hoyas. Kali Carter and Areal Bienemey were in double digits in kills for Butler, as Carter tallied 15 and hit .308 and Bienemy had 10 kills to go with a block. Carter also posted a game-high 16 digs in the solid all-around effort.

Leading Georgetown was Ashley Lancaster with 12 kills and 13 digs. Katie Nulty tallied a team-high 14 digs for the Hoyas.

The Terps are back in action at the Maryland Invitational on Saturday, as the round-robin tournament continues. Maryland faces Georgetown at 11 a.m., followed by Northern Arizona vs. Butler at 1 p.m. In the second session of the day, Georgetown faces Northern Arizona at 5:30 p.m. before a 7:30 p.m. match between the host Terrapins and Butler.
