
Hole-In-One Helps Stepanek Lead Terps

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Maryland's Kate Stepanek had a hole-in-one in the first of Saturday's two rounds en route to a 144 total and second place individually after the opening day of the Wolverine Invitational women's golf tournament hosted by the University of Michigan.
Stepanek opened with a 73, then followed up with a 71 to finish the 36 holes on Saturday with an even-par total of 144. Her ace came on the par-3, 185-yard 12th hole in the first round. She was one shot behind Amy Schmucker of Michigan, who tied the Wolverines' school-record with a 68 in Saturday's first round.
As a team, Maryland was in third place after matching rounds of 307 put the Terps at 614 after two rounds. Michigan led the team standings at 593, with SMU in second at 603. Heading into Sunday's final round, Maryland was three shots ahead of Western Michigan in the team standings.
Also for Maryland, Katie Trotter was in 11th place at 155 after rounds of 76 and 79 on Saturday. Jessica Reno and Kelly MacWhinnie were tied for 18th at 159, with Kelly Calkin in 27th at 162 and Madeleine Lovette tied for 38th at 172.
The final round of the 54-hole event will be played on Sunday.
