COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
Second-ranked Maryland field hockey closes out its home schedule this weekend, hosting rival and eighth-ranked Old Dominion on Friday, Oct. 14 at 6 p.m., and Delaware on Sunday, Oct. 16 at 1 p.m. The Terps are looking for a regular-season sweep of the Lady Monarchs, while on Sunday, Maryland will be celebrating Senior Day.
The Terps, who are 14-1 after a 5-1 win over Princeton on Tuesday, won the first meeting against perennial powerhouse Old Dominion (10-4) in Norfolk, Va., in September, claiming a 2-1 overtime victory. Maryland has played a home-and-home series vs. ODU since 1999, with the Terps sweeping the series in 2003. The Lady Monarchs won both games in 2001.
On Sunday, Emily Beach (Bethesda, Md.), Jackie Ciconte (Wilmington, Del.), Linzi Jones (Aberdeen, NSW, Australia), Meredith Long (Ocean City, N.J.), Tiffany Marsh (Marathon, N.Y.) and Lauren Powley (Mountaintop, Pa.) will be playing in their final regular-season home contest. The team will honor the six Terps for Senior Day prior to the start of the game against the Blue Hens. This senior class will rank among the most successful in school history, making two-consecutive trips to the NCAA semifinals, while boasting an .810 winning percentage and a 68-16 record to date. This class has earned four All-American citations, three All-ACC nods and seven NFHCA Mid-Atlantic All-Region honors. They have also been named to the National Academic Squad three times while four have earned a spot on the ACC Honor Roll.
The Blue Hens come into Sunday's contest with a 6-8 overall record. The Terps, who are 104-41-14 against Colonial Athletic Association teams all-time, which also includes 35 meetings against Old Dominion, lead the all-time series against Delaware, 18-10-2, winning the last seven-consecutive meetings.
All Maryland field hockey games are played at the state-of-the-art Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex. Admission is free.
