
Stepanek Second, Terps Fourth at Taco Bell Golf

GREENVILLE, N.C. - Kate Stepanek fired a round of 3-under-par 69 to tie for second individually and lead the University of Maryland to a tie for fourth after Friday's opening round of the Taco Bell Intercollegiate women's golf tournament being hosted by East Carolina.
Stepanek was three shots behind first-round leader Ashley Hovda of Western Carolina. Hovda led Western Carolina to the first-round lead with a team total of 284.
Maryland shot 294 in the first round to tie with Mercer for fourth place. The Terps are eight shots behind Augusta State, which is third at 286. Georgia State finished the first day of the tournament in second at 285.
Also for the Terps, Kelly Calkin and Jessica Reno had 1-over-par rounds of 73 to tie for 21st. Katie Trotter tied for 76th with a 79 and Kelly MacWhinnie had an 80 to tie for 83rd.
The second round, delayed by fog and bad weather on Friday, will begin early Saturday.
