
Maryland Field Hockey Hosts ACC Tournament; Terps Are Second Seed

The Third-ranked Terrapins earned the second seed and a first-round bye in the 2005 ACC Field Hockey Tournament which will be hosted by the University of Maryland on Nov. 3, 4 and 6 at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex. Tickets can be purchased through the Comcast Center Ticket Office or at www.umterps.com.
The Terps enter the tournament at 17-2 overall and 4-1 in the ACC to garner the second seed. No. 1-ranked Wake Forest earned the No. 1 seed in the tournament going undefeated in conference play. Duke is the third seed, followed by defending ACC Champion North Carolina. League-newcomer Boston College is seeded fifth and Virginia is the sixth seed.
In the first round of action on Thursday, UNC and BC square off at 1 p.m., followed by Duke and UVA at 4 p.m. On Friday, the winner of the UNC-BC game faces Wake Forest at 4 p.m., and the winner of the Blue Devils-UVA contest meets Maryland at 7 p.m. The championship game will be played on Sunday at noon and will also be televised on the ACC's Regional Sports Network (Comcast SportsNet, Fox Sports South and Sun Sports).
All six ACC schools are ranked in the national top 20, with Wake Forest, Duke, Maryland and North Carolina each being ranked in the top four, respectively. Tickets for the championship are $5 for adults, and $3 for students, children and seniors. Admission is free for students from an ACC institution with a valid ID. Group rates are also available.
