COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
Fans are invited to vote for the NCAA's 25th Anniversary Field Hockey team as part of the celebration of 25 years of NCAA Women's Championships which began in 1981.
Eleven student-athletes and one coach will be named with the help of fan voting, which will be announced on October 12. Among the nominees are head coach Missy Meharg, and former Terrapins Irene Horvat, Carla Tagliente and Jessica Wilk.
Meharg is in her 18th season at the Maryland helm. She has led the Terps to two NCAA titles (1993, 1999) and was a runner-up twice (1995, 2001). Twenty of her student-athletes have been named to the NCAA All-Tournament team 24 times. A four-time NFHCA National Coach of the Year, she has also coached 68 All-Americans.
Irene Horvat led the Terps to the 1993 NCAA title as a goalkeeper. She was named to the 1993 NCAA All-Tournament team and was selected an All-American in 1993 and 1994. She holds the school records for shutouts, goals against average and save percentage.
Carla Tagliente is Maryland's all-time goals (73) and points leader (187). One of just two players in school history to be selected All-American four times from 1997-2000, she led the Terps to the 1999 NCAA Championship crown and was named to the All-Tournament team.
Jessica Wilk, who was recently inducted into the University of Maryland's Athletics Hall of Fame, led the Terps to the 1987 NCAA title. A 1987 NCAA All-Tournament team honoree, she was a three-time All-American from 1986-88.
