Maryland-Duke Postgame Notes

Duke defeated Maryland, 4-2, Friday night at SAS Soccer Stadium in Cary, N.C. The Blue Devils prevented the Terps from advancing to the ACC Finals for the fourth straight year.

In all four Maryland losses this season, the opponent has scored a goal within the first 15 minutes of play. The Terps are 0-4-0 when their opponent scores the game's first goal this season.

The loss snapped Maryland's 11-game unbeaten streak. The Terps had been unbeaten since Sept. 25.

The Blue Devils knocked off a top-ranked Maryland team for the second straight year.

Maryland is now 7-4-0 when ranked as the No. 1 team in the country.

The loss was the first time this season when Maryland has managed to score at least one goal in a game. The Terps had been shut out in their previous three losses.

Jason Garey extended his point streak to 12 games with his goal in the 83rd minute. The goal was his 20th on the year and his 58th career goal. His 20 goals in a season rank third all-time at Maryland (Rocco Morelli, 1968), and he moved into sole possession of ninth all-time among ACC goal scorers. It was the first time Maryland has lost this season when Garey scores a goal.

Robbie Rogers scored his sixth goal of the season on a header in the 88th minute of play. His assist on Garey's first goal was his third of the season.

Chris Lancos' assist on the corner kick was his fifth this season and 18th for his career. Five of those 18 assists have come at the ACC Tournament.

Bertz' assist was his fifth of the year and his 17th career helper.

Goalkeeper Chris Seitz was beaten for the first time in his career. He made four saves against the Blue Devils. He is 9-1-1 as a starter.

The four Blue Devil goals marked the second time this season the Terps have given up four scores in a game. Maryland surrendered that amount in an early season loss to then-No. 4 UCLA.

Maryland's loss against Duke was the first against a ranked opponent since falling to the Bruins on Sept. 5. The Terps are still 8-2-1 this season against the NSCAA's Top 25.

The Terrapins are still expecting one of the top four seeds in this year's NCAA Tournament. If so, Maryland will play at Ludwig Field for as long as it advances until the national semifinals. It would also be the fourth-straight year the Terps would have secured a top-four seed.
