Maryland Field Hockey Takes on Duke on National TV for NCAA Crown

Nov. 19, 2005

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - After defeating Old Dominion in the semifinals, top-ranked and top-seeded Maryland field hockey takes on No. 3 Duke in the championship game of the NCAA Tournament on Sunday, Nov. 20 at Trager Stadium in Louisville, Ky. The game will be televised live on CSTV at 12:30 p.m.

The Terrapins are making their sixth trip to the NCAA finals and are looking to capture their fourth national title and first since 1999. Maryland enters the game with a 22-2 record, the most wins since that last championship season when it went 24-2.

Duke, who is 18-4, is making its third-consecutive trip to the championship game. The Blue Devils defeated three-time NCAA Champion and second-seeded Wake Forest on Friday night, scoring three goals in the second half to claim the win.

The teams have met twice this season with the Terps winning both meetings. Maryland topped Duke, 2-0, in the regular season in Durham, N.C., on Oct. 8. The Blue Devils fell to the Terps for a second time in the ACC Tournament semifinals in College Park, Md., 4-3, two weeks ago.

Maryland head coach Missy Meharg is in her 18th season and has led the Terps to their second and third NCAA titles in 1993 and 1999.
