Wagener Named ACC Volleyball Player of the Week

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland senior middle-blocker Rachel Wagener was named Volleyball Player of the Week by the Atlantic Coast Conference today. The announcement marks the second time Wagener has been selected Player of the Week this season and comes after the Terps (26-3, 17-3 ACC) regained first place in the league with two wins this weekend.

The Chesapeake, Virginia native averaged 3.88 kills, 2.12 blocks and 1.50 digs per game in the matches. She also had three assists for the weekend.

Wagener had 16 kills for a .519 hitting percentage, and nine blocks in the 3-1 (33-31, 30-15, 28-30, 34-32) win over Clemson Friday night. She only had two errors in 27 attempts.

Against Georgia Tech, in the final home match for Wagener, she recorded her career-high of 11 digs and eight blocks in the 3-1 (27-30, 30-28, 30-19, 30-20) victory. She also tallied 15 kills for a .344 hitting percentage, bringing her season total of matches in double-digit kills to 25.

Wagener is currently first in the ACC and #12 in the NCAA in blocks with and #19 in hitting percentage with . She surpassed the 1,000 career-kill mark earlier this season, landing her as #6 on Maryland's all-time list with 1122. She also leads Maryland's all-time records in Block Assists and Total Blocks.

The Terrapins head to North Carolina this weekend to close-out the regular season. Maryland will face NC State on Friday, Nov. 25 at 1:00 p.m. and North Carolina on Saturday, Nov. 26 at 1:00 p.m. Both games can be followed on GameTracker.
