Maryland Water Polo Drops Two At Princeton Invite

Feb. 13, 2005

PRINCETON, N.J. - The Maryland water polo team dropped the first two games of the season Saturday, falling to Brown, 17-5, and to Wagner, 10-4, at the Princeton Invitational.

In the Terps' first game of the day, senior Juli Jordan (Springfield, Va.) scored two goals against Brown, and senior Elyse Corwin (Orinda, Calif.), junior Rebecca Kadushin (College Park, Md.) and freshman Allie Houseal (Harleysville, Pa.) each scored one.

"Brown's a good team," Terp head coach Carl Salyer said. "I felt like we competed with them. We had some major mental lapses defensively as well as offensively. We didn't take advantage of some offensive opportunities, and we let some people go free for some easy goals. The score was not indicative of what happened."

Corwin had a hat trick in the second game, scoring three goals in the Terps' 10-4 loss to Wagner. Jordan also added a goal, but Salyer said that junior goalie Marissa Corwin (Orinda, Calif.) was the "story of the game."

"She had a ton of blocks in the goal," Salyer said. "We shut Wagner out in the third quarter, and that was a result of Marissa's play."

The Terps return to the pool Sunday for two more games at the Princeton Invitational. Maryland takes on Marist at 10:50 a.m. and Collegiate Water Polo Association Southern Division rival Bucknell at 3:30 p.m.
