COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland women's water polo team travels to Lewisburg, Pa., this weekend for the Bucknell Invitational. The Terps will face Marist at 1 p.m. Saturday and Slippery Rock at 5 p.m. They will close out the tournament Sunday against Penn State-Behrend at 8 a.m. and Michigan State at 2 p.m.
Maryland is coming off a 1-3 showing at the season-opening Princeton Invitational last weekend. The Terps won their first game in the program's two-year history with a 6-4 victory over Marist, the first team they will face in the Bucknell Invite tomorrow. The Terrapins also fell to Brown, Wagner and Bucknell at Princeton.
Senior Elyse Corwin (Orinda, Calf.) leads the Terps in scoring and is tied for 24th in the nation with nine goals. She scored two in Maryland's historic win over Marist last weekend and notched a hat trick against both Wagner and Bucknell.
Her sister, junior goalie Marissa Corwin (Orinda, Calif.) ranks fifth in the country with 42 saves.
"The Corwin sisters came up big [last weekend]," said head coach Carl Salyer, who also earned his first win as a head coach when the Terps defeated the Red Foxes.
Senior Juli Jordan (Springfield, Va.) is second on the team with four goals, while freshman Allie Houseal (Harleysville, Pa.) and senior Colleen McShane (Chicago, Ill.) are tied for third with two. McShane also leads the Terps with four steals.
Marist is coming off an 0-4 weekend at Princeton, in which they fell to Bucknell, Princeton, George Washington and Maryland. Slippery Rock went 1-3 at the Michigan Invitational three weeks ago, with a win over Eastern Michigan and losses to Michigan State, Colorado State and Michigan. Penn State-Behrend opens its season this weekend.
