
Maryland Water Polo Hosts Terrapin Invite

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland women's water polo team hosts the Terrapin Invitational this weekend at the Campus Recreation Center Natatorium. The tournament is the team's first home event of the season. The Terps will face Collegiate Water Polo Association Southern Division rival Bucknell at 8 p.m. Friday and divisional foe George Washington at 3 p.m. Saturday before closing out the invite in an exhibition against Navy Aquatic Club at 8 p.m.
Maryland (3-5) is coming off a 2-2 showing at last weekend's Bucknell Invitational. The Terps defeated Slippery Rock and Penn State-Behrend, but fell to Marist and Michigan State.
Senior Elyse Corwin (Orinda, Calif.) leads the Terps in scoring and is tied for 11th in the nation with 16 goals. She has scored in all eight games, including two hat tricks. She scored seven goals in four games at the Bucknell Invitational last weekend.
Her sister, junior goalie Marissa Corwin (Orinda, Calif.), ranks second in the country with 78 saves through eight games, an average of 9.8 per game.
Seniors Juli Jordan (Springfield, Va.) and Colleen McShane (Chicago, Ill.) and freshman Allie Houseal (Harleysville, Pa.) are tied for second on the team with five goals apiece.
The Terrapins lost to Bucknell, 13-4, at the season-opening Princeton Invitational. The No. 20 Bison are 8-1 on the season and coming off a perfect 5-0 mark at the Bucknell Invite. George Washington is 3-5 on the season after going 1-3 at the Bucknell tournament.
Salem International and the New York Aquatic Club will also compete at the Terrapin Invitational.
