COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland women's water polo team hosts its first annual alumni game Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Campus Recreation Center Natatorium. Former varsity and club players will return to College Park for the game.
Though last season was the first year the water polo team competed at the varsity level, Maryland boasts a long history of successful club programs.
"I want to include any players that played with the club team and make them feel a connection with the current varsity program," head coach Carl Salyer said. "There were some great teams and great players from the club program."
Maryland club water polo was nationally competitive in the 1990's. The 2005 Terps are 4-10 on the season, but have already made history, notching the varsity program's first-ever win over Marist Feb. 13, as well as the first-ever Southern Division win over Salem International March 5.
With 24 goals on the season, senior Elyse Corwin (Orinda, Calif.) is the Terps' all-time leading scorer with 30 in two seasons.
