COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland water polo coach Carl Salyer announced today that Texas prep star Liz Eicks will join the Terps next season. Eicks becomes the team's fifth recruit for 2006.
"I am very excited about adding Liz to the group of incoming freshman for next year," Salyer said. "She will provide us a lot of depth at the centerback defender position, as well as adding a potent scoring punch from the outside at the offensive end of the pool. She has a great work ethic, and I believe she could help out most any program."
A native of Humble, Texas, Eicks is the captain of the water polo team at Humble High School. She plays for the Houston Water Polo club team in the summer, and was selected to play on the Southwest Zone team in 2004.
Eicks is a member of the National Honor Society, and she plans on studying engineering at Maryland.
Eicks joins 2006 recruits Blaise Stanicic, Christen Vagts and Ashleigh Jobson from Navy Aquatic Club in Annapolis and Elizabeth Hopkins from Coronado, Calif., who committed to the Terps in November. Maryland will lose seniors Elyse Corwin, Juli Jordan, Colleen McShane and Sarah Wahba at the end of the season.
