History about Kicks against Breast Cancer
KABC was established in honor of Claudia Mayer who passed away in 1996 after a two-year battle with breast cancer. Since the inception of the tournament 8 years ago, donations and fundraising by our participating teams has totaled more than $295,000. Last year's even raised $44,000. The funds were used to assist with the operating expenses for Howard County General Hospital's Claudia Mayer Cancer Resource and Image Center in Columbia. Maryland and mammography screenings were offered to more than 30 women who lacked health insurance. We are proud to say that lives have been saved as a result of the screenings. Since the inaugural tournament, many other businesses have joined in establishing additional fundraising events. Thus far, more than $600,000 has been raised in support of the Center.
The Terps then travel to the University of Virginia on April 9 for a scrimmage at 1:00 p.m. The following day, April 10, Maryland returns to Ludwig Field for a 1:00 p.m. game vs. Villanova.
The ACC Challenge will be held in Winston Salem, N.C., at Wake Forest on April 15-16 and will feature round-robin play with all ACC schools.
April 23 will feature a round-robin event with American, UMBC, Vermont, West Virginia and the Eastchester Patriots.
The spring schedule concludes on April 30 with the annual Terrapin Alumni game at 2:00 p.m. at Ludwig Field.
